Garrett Hunkins is an associate at Graves Garrett and supports the firm’s Commercial and Business Litigation, White Collar Criminal Defense, and Free Speech & Election Law practice groups. He focuses his practice on complex litigation involving both corporate and political clients.

Garrett has experience in a variety of matters, including commercial litigation, constitutional law, civil rights litigation, election law, internal investigations and appellate practice. Prior to joining the firm, Garrett worked as a summer associate and law clerk at Graves Garrett.
Garrett received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where he graduated cum laude. Garrett was a member of both the UMKC Law Review and Urban Lawyer law journals. During his second year of law school, Garrett was selected for the UMKC Law Review Board and served as Lead Comment Editor. While earning his degree, Garrett was also chosen to participate in the United States Attorney’s Office internship program, where he served the Western District of Missouri in the Criminal Division’s Appellate Unit. In addition to graduating with honors, Garrett was on the Dean’s List each semester and received CALI Excellence Awards for the highest grades in Criminal Law, Legislation and Seminar on the Supreme Court.
Prior to law school, Garrett attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and received a minor in journalism.
Garrett is a member of the board of directors for the Mizzou Alumni Association – Kansas City Chapter. He is also an active member of the Federalist Society and the Catholic Lawyer’s Guild of Kansas City. Garrett resides in downtown Kansas City.
