
Alex Menzel
Counsel
Alex Menzel draws on an extensive and accomplished career in law enforcement to inform his private practice where he helps clients navigate complex internal and external investigations that often involve the potential of regulatory actions and/or criminal charges.
Most recently, Alex retired from the FBI after spending 20 years in various roles, including work in complex financial crime, international terrorism, and violent gangs. He also served stints as Associate Division Counsel (2013-2015) and supervisor of both the International Terrorism (2015-2016) and Transnational Organized Crime (2016-2021) squads for the Kansas City Field Office.
In addition, Alex served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Missouri from 2007-2013 and the District of Kansas from 2013-2014. During his time with the FBI, he spent time overseas working with partners in Jordan, Morocco, the Netherlands, Ethiopia, Senegal, Colombia, Mexico and Guatemala.
Alex completed his undergraduate studies in forest resource management from the University of Georgia in 1995 and later earned a Master of Science there in wildlife biology. He went on to complete a doctoral degree in forestry and wildlife management and his law degree from West Virginia University, graduating first in his class and earning order of the coif honors.
While in law school, Alex clerked for the Hon. Irene Keeley, the Chief Judge of the U.S. District for the Northern District of West Virginia, and completed an internship with a major national law firm in Washington, D.C. He clerked for the Hon.Robert Bruce King of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Charleston, West Virginia, and Richmond, Virginia, upon graduation.
