Edward D. Greim

Eddie Greim is an attorney with Graves Garrett in Kansas City.

Edward “Eddie” Greim focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, internal investigations and whistleblower claims, and free speech and election law. He has been recognized for his successful representation of businesses and individuals in commercial litigation while also being named a “go-to” lawyer on policy and constitutional issues. 

A recipient of Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s 2013 Influential Lawyer of the Year award, Eddie has argued before the Missouri Supreme Court on four occasions and litigates complex, high-profile commercial and constitutional cases in federal and state court.

He has counseled clients on a range of matters that have included:

  • Prosecution and defense of claims for business torts, misappropriation of trade secrets, and breach of contract;
  • Oversight of multiple internal investigations, including the highly publicized investigation into the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph;
  • Serving as lead counsel in complex litigation, including Class Counsel in one of the first class actions ever certified against the Internal Revenue Service for violation of taxpayer protection statutes;
  • Statutory and constitutional litigation involving federal and Missouri public bodies and officials;
  • Advice to industry associations, state and federal PACs, and initiative petition groups in Missouri and across the country

Eddie’s free speech and election law practice has included numerous constitutional challenges to election and campaign finance laws; representation of clients in state and federal ethics and campaign finance enforcement actions and investigations; initiative petition drafting and litigation; litigation and advice regarding First Amendment protections for petition circulation; representation of not-for-profit clients before state regulators; and advice on campaign and election law compliance.

Eddie has successfully represented clients in trial and appellate courts in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, New York, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, and the United States Courts of Appeal for the Sixth, Eighth, and Tenth Circuits. He is licensed to practice in the state courts of Missouri, New York, and Kansas, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Sixth, Eighth, and Tenth Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Western District of Michigan, and the District of Montana.

Matters of Note

Congressional Redistricting: Eddie argued twice in the Missouri Supreme Court successfully defending Missouri’s new congressional districts, which were called into question when the state lost one of its nine seats in Congress.

Commercial Litigation: Eddie is overseeing a series of federal and state lawsuits, ranging from trademark lawsuits, to breach of fiduciary and derivative claims, to trust and estate litigation, that have arisen between several related commercial and nonprofit entities within a nationally prominent political and lobbying network.

Internal Investigations: Eddie has overseen and written final reports for multiple internal investigations of major organizations, including the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph in 2012.

Missouri Constitutional Litigation: Eddie’s experience includes managing the trial and appellate litigation relating to the Right to Work, the controversial Missouri Court Plan, and new Missouri constitutional provisions regarding the right to keep and bear arms.

Eddie was recently appointed by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights as a member of its Missouri Advisory Committee. He is the President of the Federalist Society Kansas City lawyers’ chapter. He is also secretary of the Kansas City Catholic Lawyers’ Guild and involved outside of the legal profession in the Knights of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and the Knights of Columbus.

Eddie received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 2002. During law school, he taught on the Board of Student Advisors, received the Dean’s Award for Leadership, and served as President of the Harvard Catholic Law Students’ Association.

Eddie received two bachelor’s degrees, summa cum laude, in economics and political science from the University of Missouri.

A native of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Eddie lives in the Brookside neighborhood of Kansas City with his family.
