Alexander, Raitinger appointed to leadership positions in KC legal community

Graves Garrett attorneys Andrew Alexander and Callie Pippin Raitinger have recently been appointed to leadership positions with the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA).

Alexander will serve as the Federal Court Advocates Section’s Outreach Committee Co-Chair. The FCAS connects federal court practitioners with federal judges, magistrates, and other lawyers interested in federal law through seasonal social events and outreach programs designed to enhance community awareness of the federal system. The section also develops and executes continuing education programs to help practitioners navigate the federal courts system and stay up-to-date with relevant developments.

Raitinger will be a part of KCMBA’s Diversity Section for the second year in a row, serving as Vice Chair of the Membership and Social Committee in 2019. She also continues to serve in leadership positions on the Wellness Committee and Publications Committee.

In her role with the Diversity Section, Raitinger will work with other committee members to plan and coordinate social activities for networking. This includes an emphasis on creating opportunities to get others involved and interacting with diverse groups to help bring people together on a less formal basis.

KCMBA is the largest and oldest bar association in the Kansas City area, founded in 1884. The organization uses its platform to provide current, innovative and relevant service to its 5,000 members in its nine-county service territory in Missouri and Kansas.

With 40 committees and eight sections, KCMBA credits its continued success to the vibrant dedication and volunteerism of its members, who generously give their time and talents to pro bono projects and other community-based organizations.

In addition to her role with KCMBA, Raitinger has been selected to serve on the Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City’s Board of Directors for the fourth year in a row. She will be the Awards Committee Chair in 2019. The AWL was formed in 1976 to advance the role of women in the legal profession and remains committed to helping women thrive in the law by providing opportunities, education, networking, philanthropy and camaraderie.

Alexander focuses his practice on complex business and commercial litigation; competition litigation and antitrust counseling; federal enforcement actions; trademark and copyright litigation; and healthcare regulatory matters. He began his legal career as a judicial clerk to the Hon. J. Thomas Marten, then Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. During law school, Alexander interned for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri in the Fraud and Corruption Unit and for the Hon. Fernando J. Gaitan Jr., then Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.

Raitinger’s practice at Graves Garrett includes data privacy and information security matters in addition to defending individual and corporate clients in a variety of litigation cases and criminal and regulatory investigations. Her background ranges from intellectual property and business disputes to contract law and employment-related matters.
